"Sorry I'm not here anymore, but I did love you."

A few years ago I had a client who was long distance truck driver. He came to me wanting some life insurance as he had a young 5 year old son and wife. I remember he took out $750,000 and it cost him around $20.00 per month.

About 3 years later he died in a road accident, ironically in his car, near his home running an errand. He was alone in the car at the time. What I didn’t know at the time, was that he never told his wife, or anyone else for that matter that he had taken out the life insurance.

Eventually his wife called me having found some paperwork with my name on it, she had no idea what it was and she told me the tragic news. Not only had she lost her husband, she was financially destitute. (or she thought she was)

Two weeks later a check for $750,000 arrived at my office payable to my client’s wife and I immediately drove to her home and presented her with the check. She broke down in tears realizing how much her husband had loved both her and her son to have had the courage and foresight to take out some life insurance.

It changed her life.

When I suggest to people whom I think could use some life insurance and they pooh pooh the idea, I tell them this story.
